Crash.co (no longer in business)
Traditional paper-based credentials are outdated.
Crash.co is the new approach for candidates to not only discover what they are truly interested in, but a place to show what they have produced using real life projects with absolute results.
For Crash’s branding, I took a step away from the obvious things that go crash, like asteroids and explosions and thought of what made most sense in terms of what Crash is aiming to accomplish—a bespoke approach to the current institutional human-factory model of education.
The user is at the center of their own Crash universe, so I explored icons that represented the self. The Venn Diagram is a great traditional representation of a person and their interests, and just so happens to make some interesting shapes when overlapped.
Adding more concentric circles to the diagram helped to further represent the depths of interests that makes up each and every human. The shape that was ultimately derived was fitting for this project without being too specific for any future growth Crash may go through.
A quick rotation of the icon gave a solid vertical space for the wordmark to be situated comfortably.
After we completed the foundation of the brand, Crash was ready to start reaching out to a handful of people known as ‘Founding Crashers’ with a SWAG box complete with a custom designed package, “Crash Your Career” guidebook, tee shirt, and a ‘burn your resume’ matchbox.

“Matt is one of the most insightful, intuitive designers I've worked with in my career. The level of energy with which he approaches his work combined with a keen sense of clarity at getting to the essence of an idea through design is both remarkable and admirable. He's a true professional, a bold creative, and an all-around upstanding guy. If Matt's ever got the bandwidth to take on your project, you should jump on the opportunity to work with him to bring your ideas to life."
